TCT Annular Cutter
An Annular Cutter is also popularly known as Core Drill, Core Cutter, or Broach Cutter. Bipico Annular Cutter is a specialized bit for drilling through steel. Like a hole saw for wood, an Annular Cutter only cuts the outside edge of a hole. It produces accurate burr-free holes to close tolerances without pre-drilling or step drilling. It can drill a much larger hole and requires less force and time than a standard twist drill bit. An Annular Cutter cuts only the periphery of a hole, leaving a circular "slug" at the center. An Annular Cutter is more efficient than spiral drill bits and standard hole saws. An Annular Cutter is similar to a hole saw but differs in geometry and material. On stationary drill machines, where through-holes are to be drilled with help of pilot holes, Bipico Annular Cutters prove the biggest advantage by directly drilling final diameter in less than one-third of cutting time as compared to conventional drill bits. Also, the scrap material has reproductive value.
Advantages of Bipico Annular Cutters
- Less power / Less effort: The conventional twist drill has only two cutting edges, while an Annular Cutter has multiple cutting edges which helps to drill with much less horsepower and effort.
- Less material to cut: The conventional twist drill being solid and having only a cutting point has to cut or remove the complete material of the hole to be made. While Annular Cutters have multiple edges and are hollow cuts only on the periphery of the hole to be made.
- Less time needed: Annular Cutters are considered to be 3 to 4 times faster than conventional Drill Bits.
- Lower cost: Annular Cutter makes 5 to 10 times more holes than a twist drill and it can be again reground for further use.
- No pre-drilling or step-drilling: While using a twist drill bit or metal hole saw one has to do pre-drilling and step-drilling operations for bigger diameter holes, whereas an Annular Cutter requires no pre-drilling and step-drilling. It is a one-shot drilling operation.
- Burr-free Holes: One of the biggest advantages of core drills over twist drill is burr-free holes and smooth holes, resulting in less scrap and wastage of material.
Type of Industries using Annular Cutter:
- Steel Fabricators
- Building & Constructions
- Bridge re-building
- Mining
- Ship Building
- Truck, RV & Special Vehicle Build
- Pipeline, Offshore & Oil Fields
- Railroad Industries
- Maintenance Facilities
- Welding Shops
- Mobile Repair Shops
- Machinery Riggers
Advantages of Annular Cutter
- Time-saving: As an Annular Cutter cuts only on the periphery of the hole to be made, it has to remove much less material as compared to conventional Drill Bits which cut and remove the complete material of the hole. The Annular Cutters have alternative teeth geometry, therefore the holes can be made at higher or faster-cutting speed.
- Energy-saving: because Annular Cutters do not have to drill/cut through the complete workpiece, they require less thrust and thus less energy to drill through material.
- Smooth hole finish & less friction: Due to evenly distributed chip load to multiple cutting edges, the hole finishing will be precise, smooth and accurate.
- Easy: Due to the unique geometry of the Annular Cutters, making holes at awkward anglesis also very easy.
- Efficient cooling: The cooling of Annular Cutters is internal. The internal lubrication is provided through a hole with the help of a pilot pin. Internal lubrication makes the Annular Cutter faster and more efficient for deep hole drilling.
- Best for light-duty machines: As the Annular Cutters require very low RPM (from min 50 RPM), these cutters can be easily used with light-duty drilling machines or portable magnetic base drilling machines.
- Longer Tool Life: Due to the special heat treatment of the Annular Cutter it has a longer life.
